Hotel

We’ve booked our hotel! We decided not to stay right in London, and rather, stay in Barnet, North London at a gorgeous little B&B called Glenlyn Hotel!

Though we’ll have to commute to get into London, we’ll get to experience a bit of the countryside.

We were approached by another hotel in the city, City Marque, with a discount to book a room at one of their apartments, but unfortunately even with the discount, the cost was still more than we can afford right now.

As much as we appreciated the offer, I think we’re happier in the long run with the decision we’ve made.  We’ll see if hindsight chances that later 😉

Car or Transit?

Going into this we knew we would be taking transit, or at least, that’s how we’ve planned it. We’re finally getting to go to our favorite country, why wouldn’t we want to part take in everything British? Now of course we’ve realized we’re not going to be able to find that one perfect hotel that is close to everything we’re going to, and would like to do. It’s London for god’s sake. But again, needing to take transit or heck even walking a few dozen blocks, doesn’t bother us. I decided though that since we’ll be using transit a fair bit, I should look into the general prices to get an estimation on what it’ll cost us during our stay. That’s when I discovered the London Pass & Travel Card. A nifty little card, very similar to that of Toronto’s City Pass, only instead of a couple attractions it gets you into, the London Pass gets you into every historic building, museum, tour, you’d want to see. Seriously, it’s incredible the amount of things this card gets you into for free, plus even skip the line at a few. Along with the Travel Card, you’re able to take every bus, train, tube, you’d want for free as well, to help you get around to all those sites you want to see. Pretty amazing right? So what does it cost? Each pass costs £156, so at the moment around $258CAD. After my head exploded from sheer shock. I will admit, it is worth it considering just how much you get. But to get one for each of us is going to cost $516. Again, worth it, but a little more out there than I’d like. Plus with us only being able to go for a week, and most of those days already filled with plans, how much time will we really have to visit places on that list that we want to see? So that’s when I’m starting to wonder… Would it be better in the long run if we just rented a car? Of course then we have to worry about gas, parking, etc. So I guess that really leaves our option being, go big or go home right? Then again, we could also vagabond it like my relatives did Haha.

1500

If 1500, kind & generous people donated only $5 (£3), we would not only raise enough for the fee & to pay back my Mom, but for our flights & hotel as well. Or even 144 people donating $50 (£30).

We’re not the kind of people who like to ask for things. And we’d much rather give than to receive. So asking for you all to donate isn’t the easiest thing for us to do. But we’re asking, please, we would truly appreciate any help, big or small. Help us make this dream come true.

Payments; We’re Officially IN!

As you know, October 1st was our deadline for the first half of the payment, and if you’ve been watching our donation page, you’d see that we were no where near close enough to being able to make the payment.

My Mom, being as incredible as she is though, lent us the money we needed to pay the first half! So we are indeed definitely going! We still have a tremendously long way to go though…

I’ve decided not to update the raised money to show we made the first payment, because we need to pay back what my Mom lent us. So once we raise that amount, we will be paying her back. We still need to raise the amount for the second payment, which will be £950, and we’ve been told we can now pay that by November 23rd. On top of that, we also need to raise enough to help us pay for the flights & accommodations.

On our page, I’ve added a ‘wish list’ to help show the costs we still need to raise in other areas, aside from the fee itself.

What Happens If We Don’t Raise Enough?

The question hasn’t been asked, but we know it will be, as it has been on our minds as well.

If we end up not raising enough money in time, we know we won’t get our deposit back, which is fine. For the money we raised, we’ll put that towards a trip to England regardless. Though it might not happen in November for the 50th Anniversary, or for a vow renewal, we will use it one way or another for a trip to England.

Before this event came up, our plans have always been to travel to England (mainly Luton), in 2015 as a family with James (and any other possible children we may have by then). We figured, that would give us enough time to save up, to afford the trip. But even despite this event, we still intend on traveling over for a much longer stay than we could possibly do right now.

When we heard about the wedding event, we inquired more as a lark, never thinking we would stand a chance at actually being chosen as 1 of the 50 couples. Knowing that we had a chance, we jumped at it, because this is a once in a lifetime event.. Who wouldn’t?

But the reality is still there. We aren’t a couple of much means. It’s all we can do to get by day by day. Which is why we’re taking the route of fundraising to help us make this happen. But if however, we don’t reach the necessary funds in time.. Then we will simply carrying on with our plans for a 2015 trip, and use the money raised towards that. And who knows, maybe we’ll renew our vows in Luton instead. I’m sure my Great Grandparents would have loved that.
